What is vore?
Jul. 18th, 2024 09:40 pmPerhaps you have pondered the question what is vore? Or why is vore a thing? Or how the hell is anyone obsessed with vore? Perhaps even who is obsessed? Or what kinds of vore exist? Or any number of myriad questions in that regard. Well good sir/madame/non-binary and/or void spawn, I am here to hopefully elucidate all of these quandries!
What is vore?
Now I could go into the ancient origins of vore, and all the references to it in history, but let me simply explain the modern day and most common use of the term. Vore is a sexual fetish where one entity consumes another entity. It is a very vast fetish with many different types of vore, ranging from soft vore that is typically non-fatal, to hard vore which is often fatal and excruciating. For some, vore isn't even a sexual fetish so much as a fascination, or something that brings them happiness to see in some way. For others they can't even get sexually stimulated without incorporating vore into it some way. Some people like to imagine themselves as the prey, others the predator, and others simply like to watch. You may think this is bizarre and you never need to concern yourself with this, but nearly 10% of the population gets some sort of gratification from vore. You may feel free to fact check me on this, but the number may even be higher because people wouldn't necessarily want to admit they do.
Why is vore a thing?
Vore is one of the most common things in nature you can find. Animals eat each other, we eat animals, and so there technically isn't actually any avoiding vore entirely. Now people sexualizing the act of people getting eaten is indeed something that goes as far back as the Aztecs and the ancient Egyptians. People getting eaten by animals is much more rare in this day and age where humans rule the world uncontested, but there are still incidents reported every now and then of people getting eaten by tigers, bears, sharks, gators, snakes, catfish, and even hippos. Cannibalism is a practice outlawed in every civilized country in the world, and for very good reason. That doesn't mean people don't fantasize about it though, and there are insane people who will break the law. Our society is also filled to the brim with literature and film where vore occurs, even if it's not necessarily sexualized. There's no escaping vore so long as there are beings that must consume to survive.
How is anyone obsessed with vore!?
There are a plethora of facets that lead to this, so this may be the longest section.
Usually a kink or fetish begins with a childhood trauma of some sort. This could be nearly anything from watching a spider grab a fly, to seeing your favorite character in a video game eaten by a monster. The trauma may also be from something like someone calling you or someone else "yummy" or "delicious" terms often used when sexualizing another person. Often when confronted with these forms of trauma as a child, the brain tries to come up with a way to rationalize the problem on its own, and thus a fetish can be born of it. If something that you would normally find traumatic or distressing is instead something that causes you gratification, then it's no longer a problem for your childhood brain to comprehend, and instead becomes a problem for your adult brain who gets turned on by things other people consider weird.
Now with vore, there are a number of other things that people can find enjoyment in other than just the consumption itself. There is automatically a power dynamic between prey and predator, where one submits and one is dominant. Vore for some people can be seen as the ultimate form of dominance and submission, because the prey is literally parting with its life for the sake of the predator's. This can be done willingly or unwillingly, with sapient prey and predators, or for some people even with animals.
Peril and bondage are both kinks that play into vore as well. There is a certain thrill to be had in the danger of submitting yourself to something that will likely lead to death. The tight confines of a predator's mouth, tongue, throat, coils, tentacles, or even the stomach, can appeal to certain bondage enthusiasts. They feel trapped and powerless, helpless to suffer the fate of whatever the predator is going to do to them. Their bodies may even be tightly pressed in certain erogenous ways that will help stimulate our enthusiast.
Tongues are probably one of the most commonly associated muscles with erogenous action. Whether it's being used in kissing, oral sex, body worship, or other forms of foreplay, tongues are often seen as a tool for erotic encounters. As you might imagine, tongues often play an important part in vore, and for many people the most important part. Depending upon the intelligence or size of the predator, the tongue is often used to sexually stimulate the prey before or during consumption. Smaller tongues can go inside orifices, while larger ones can wrap around the prey and provide full body "oral sex" or body worship. Soft vore is almost entirely about tongue or mouth play, with the prey eventually being swallowed whole and alive, or spat out afterwards.
In nature there are two primary things all animals have a drive to seek out for survival, food and sex. You could argue air and water are more necessary, but they're so necessary they often have a steady supply of it or die. Food and sex is the constant struggle for all animals. So I ask you... is it really so strange that some people want to combine the two? You've likely seen some Hollywood production or another where people ate food of another person's body in a sexual way? Or heard that woman in Disney's Aladdin say "Still I think he's rather tasty!" in a kid's movie? This kink is way more common than you may have ever realized.
Who is interested in vore?
Now this may be a touchy and controversial topic, but the most common people interested in vore are either heavy eaters, or have self-esteem issues. (Sometimes both!) Have you ever loved someone so much you wished you could be them? Or loved something so much you wished you could be that thing? Well some people love food so much they wish they could be food. It's a slightly more rare reason for someone to like vore, but it's not unheard of. Many obese individuals who enjoy vore want to consume what they love, or who they love, and imagine themselves as the predator. Some simply like to watch, and some want to be consumed.
Now for those with low self-esteem, vore can seem like the ultimate answer. For some it can be a form of suicide kink, but for most it's a form of validation. They want to be loved, they want to be desired, they want to be cherished, and they might feel they receive that by submitting to being prey. They can be told how wonderful and delicious they are, a form of praise often used to describe how sexy someone can be. They may not have much purpose in their own eyes, but predator-san loves them! Others with low self-esteem may feel the exact opposite, where they feel they deserve nothing more than to be a lowly meal, stripped of their human rights, used up, and forgotten about. There are many types of reasons those with self-esteem issues may find vore more appealing than most, but they usually see themselves as prey rather than predator or audience.
Because vore is nearly impossible without death or breaking the law, it mostly resides within the realm of sexual fantasies. This may come as a surprise to some people, but the majority of human beings aren't suicidal or homicidal. Now because safe/soft vore is physically impossible between two humans, it is often fantasized with magic, science fiction, monsters, animals or... furries. Yes, vore is actually quite prolific among furries because they don't often abide by human standards to begin with. As I am not a furry (knock on wood), I will not be explaining this aspect of vore.
What kinds of vore exist?
I started to blend this part in with my "who" section so that I could explain that furries are often into vore. This section is probably a REAL doozie, because there's so many types, but I will do my best to cover them all! Or at least most of the most common ones. Now you may remember how I said vore is one entity consuming another? Well vore then gets divided up into all sorts of neat caregories based upon predator, prey, gender, intensity... and my least favorite thing to discuss... orifices.
Let's start off with the elephant in the room and let me tell you that any orifice can be sexualized, and used for vore. You may wish to skip this paragraph if you've thought about that long and hard enough and decided you don't want or need to know further on that topic. Oral vore is the most common, followed by vaginal vore which is often called unbirth. Some people like to regress to the womb, or really get intimate with their lover's vagina. After that we have anal vore, for the kinky folks who like to go up that way, and then penis or cock vore which usually implies insertion into the penis. Unlike unbirth, cock vore is often fatal and has the consumed prey turned into semen for the sake of an orgasm. I must say... it's certainly not my cup of tea. Last in this category I will bring up, is a category of vore made popular by dragon ball and perfect cell, tail vore. The victim is sucked up into the predator's tail like a straw, before being absorbed or placed inside the predator in some manner.
Now since I started from the end of that list, let's keep going and discuss intensity! The most common form of vore is soft vore, and many (if not most) people prefer a non-fatal version of vore. Whether the victim is spat out, regurgitated, teleported, rescued, somehow survives going through their intestines, or perhaps even defies the laws of physics and suspension of disbelief and lives cozy and content forever in their predator's stomach. Then there is digestion, which can be either a soft melting and painlessly becoming one, or a hard, graphic, acidic, painful ordeal, but digestion almost always leads to death. Now because we're talking fantasy, there are some who go for resurrection of the prey so they can do it all over again, and some who prefer an absolute finality.
Next we have hard vore and cannibalism, which can still be completely different things. Biting can be simple foreplay sometimes, but usually in vore it's part of ripping and tearing of flesh. It's how a tiger or polar bear might eat someone, or a cannibalistic human being who didn't have qualms about keeping his prey alive the whole time. Hard vore is often the type of vore many people think of when they first hear about vore, but it often viewed as the "dark side" of vore. Even those into graphic digestion may turn squeamish when it comes to hard vore, because the victims aren't even in one piece when eaten, and can't "enjoy" most of the aspects of vore people find appealing. I include cannibalism in this category but keep it slightly different because oftentimes the prey is cooked in this fantasy. You may not know this, but human meat is very unsafe for consumption especially raw, so cooking it would be a must for any human predators to survive the act. Hard vore and cannibalism often are too real for many vore enthusiasts, and as a consequence it often is shunned or frowned upon.
Now let's talk gender! Please forgive me if I did not include non-binary or void spawn in this category, but the vore usually is divided into four categories for this. We have female predator with female prey, a tried and true classic for anyone who isn't interested in guys sexually or plays for both teams. We have male prey with a male predator, for those uninterested in women or don't care. Then we have male predator consuming a woman, or a female predator consuming a man. Now the interesting thing about these last two is that they're much less common with humanoid predators, which leads me into my next section!
Predators! This can be a highly devisive topic among vore fans, where some only want prey to be consumed by a being that at least looks human, while others insists it has to be an animal or monster. Many people don't care about the gender of the predator if it's a monster or animal unless it's intelligent enough to speak, or seduce its prey. Some people are particular about the type of monster or animal predator they prefer, like snakes, giant frogs, dragons, or what have you. One thing I've often noticed is that many straight women prefer a dominant male monster predator, which may be expected since men typically are the more dominant ones in a relationship.
It should probably come as no surprise that women are often the preferred prey in vore, for the same reason male predators are popular among straight women and many men. Vore is often about that power dynamic, and men dominating women is very popular sexually. There is male prey from time to time, but usually it's with a more submissive or "pretty" male. The exception to this is with female predators, which are quite common thanks to one of the most famous and prolific vore artists in the world, Karbo. The other thing that should come as no surprise is that the prey is almost always human or humanoid. There's the furries too of course, and some people into bestiality where both prey and predator are animals, but that's more niche than I plan to go into. There are some rare instances of human predators swallowing animals whole and alive, but they're usually not viewed in a positive light because that is something some people try to do in real life. Anytime vore is brought too close to reality it is heavily frowned upon.
There are... too many species of predators to name them all, so I'll try to name the most common ones in one big list. Giants/giantesses, snakes, half-humans (nagas, mermaids etc), dragons, frogs, humans, humanoids, fish, whales, birds, mimics, pokemon, dinosaurs, cats, dogs, spiders, bugs, lizards, plants, squids, octopuses, eldritch horrors, and void spawn.
There is one last category I forgot to mention because... I don't like to think about it. Size difference is very important in vore because the predator needs to be able to consume the prey. However there is one niche category of vore where that's not the case, and that is same size vore. Have you ever seen a character have their bodies stretch in unnatural ways in hentai? Same size vore takes that to the ultimate extreme, putting Monkey D. Luffy to shame. Then you also have shrinking and growing, made popular with alice in wonderland but used in many fantasy settings all over. Even a tiny fairy can turn into a giantess capable of swallowing a human whole this way.
I think that covers nearly everything. If you have any FURTHER questions, please feel free to ask in the comment section below! If there was something you feel I should cover or didn't cover enough you can also leave a comment saying so. I hope that you found this enlightening, and perhaps you won't judge those with a vore fetish so harshly in the future.
